Considering new production of our award-winning film “Ghost Walk: THE FARM” from 45-minute short film into full feature; to seek funding for additional scenes written in the screenplay or start over with an all new production. “The Farm” is a story which is part of a series titled “The Ghost Walk Saga”. A TV series is also suggested: Dawson Falls, Ohio.

Your input and suggestions are appreciated.
I really do not know why filmmakers do shorts. It is a waste of money unless you do not do it for the money
With a feature, you have a chance to sell it.
I would look at the scenes you have already filmed and take what you think are really good and keep going from there
The easy answer, Sarah, is it was our first film and didn’t know anything about distribution; plus, we didn’t have much money then or now to finance a full feature film. If we could do it over again, we would turn The Farm into a feature film.
Honestly I’d probably start over. For a couple of reasons. I think it could be more visually appealing and the sound could be better. It’s a beautiful location but where are the crops? For me, I’d shoot with a dslr and some primes. Set camera to 24p shooting at a 16:9 ratio and shutter at 50 or above. Obviously depending on your lighting situation and ISO to consider as well. Then take your primes and rack focus a bunch. Shoot dirty too, grab some more foreground focus. There was an ok shot of a warehouse I think and an actor standing back pretty far. It was nice. As far as audio goes. Have an ADR session with your actors. That guy laying on the couch had a lot of reverb and so did some other shots but that was the one that hit me the hardest. But the sound bouncing off the ceiling can be hard to listen to. The VO I thought was done nicely. Very crisp. I hope some of this helps and take what I said into the right light. Keep it up man!
Good input about ADR, David and Larry… something we definitely will consider before filming again. We noticed the echo in edit too, but were rushing and being pushed to get the film ready for a festival showing at that time. It is one of those new filmmaker errors we learned the hard way. As far as the crops, the site didn’t have them and the story line points to a farm/farmhouse that has been uninhabited by people and abandoned for several years. Unfortunately, the followup film in the series, “The Dawson War”, both prequel and sequel, fell into too many financial and crew problems to be finished. It explained much of the history of the owner. It has now gone back to the pre-production designation to see if we can continue.
You guys had a pretty strong buzz for a while, so i’m sure it wouldn’t be that hard to get some additional scenes done of the farm or incorporate some of the Dawsons war footage in some way. That’s what i would do.
Still working on progressing with “The Ghost Walk Saga” series of films. I am now in talks with an interested distributor for “The Farm” and it’s looking good. Updates on my page with titles and plans if you want to check them out…still seeking a good producer for the next film; whichever one is decided. I will probably bring in a new director too due to first director not having much time to film, and another director not finishing work. Thanks to everyone who read my post and wrote great replies!
